Semmelweis University stands as a prominent institution of higher learning in Hungary and the wider Central European region, focusing on the fields of medicine and health sciences. The university is deeply committed to the core principles of education, research, and healthcare, which have collectively established it as a globally recognized hub of knowledge and expertise.

Distinguished as a specialist university, Semmelweis University holds a unique position within Hungary, as evidenced by the impressive statistics showing that around 45 percent of the country's physicians, 44 percent of dentists, 39 percent of pharmacists, and 28 percent of healthcare professionals are graduates of this institution.

This university fosters a truly international community by offering programs in three languages: Hungarian, English, and German. In addition to its educational role, Semmelweis University is also the largest provider of healthcare services in Hungary. The university's clinics and hospitals serve as sites for practical teaching while simultaneously delivering top-tier patient care. Many of these departments specialize in treating severe and complex medical cases, contributing to the university's significant role in national healthcare provision.

Research, development, and innovation are integral components of the university's tri-fold mission. Its research endeavors are targeted at early diagnostics and therapy, disease prevention, and active aging. A substantial number of the university's professors are esteemed members of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, fostering close collaborations between the two institutions across various fields. Notably, Semmelweis University was awarded the prestigious title of Research University for the second time in 2013.

With a workforce exceeding 10,000 employees, Semmelweis University engages in a broad spectrum of activities, including higher education, vocational training, specialist postgraduate programs, the cultivation of emerging scientific talent, and the promotion of academic excellence.
